February member email update
New Vice President - Janie McCullagh
Following the recent General Meeting on February 11th, Tristan Koch voluntarily opted to resign from his position as Vice President the next day. Tristan has been Vice President since December 2013 and has been a valued member of the team, and we will miss his passion and enthusiasm for the role. Tristan expressed that he is still keen to assist where possible and remain an active member of the Association. On behalf of the executive and the entire Association, we say thank you to Tristan for his efforts and wish him all the best for the year ahead.
The executive has been quick to fill this position with Janie McCullagh volunteering to take up the role for the remainder of the season and continue her involvement on the executive which has been as the female and equity & diversity representative. Under rule 19.12 of our constitution, the committee (executive) has the ability to appoint the role where a vacancy occurs between AGM's without having nominations or voting, as per what would normally occur at an AGM, which we have acted upon quickly to ensure a smooth transition.
Janie has already brought a lot to the executive and the Association and will be a great asset in the role. Next time you see Janie, please say Congratulations!

For those that are Platinum, Gold or Silver members, we began handing out 2015 Association apparel on Wednesday night at the General Meeting.
The next opportunity for pick up your shorts, back packs and 2014 piece of apparell will be at training on Wednesday 25th February at Coorparoo.
2015/16 Umpiring Terms and Conditions Update
We welcomed AFLQ Football Operations Manager Craig Millar to Wednesday nights General Meeting, who outlined the direction umpiring in Queensland is headed, and provided further feedback on the ongoing negotiations with the Association for the next agreement. This was warmly welcomed by all in attendance with some robust discussion and feedback taking place.
Following this and Craig's departure from the meeting, the executive and members continued to debate the merits of the current negotiations and the next steps to signing off on an agreement for the 2015 and 2016 seasons. During this time, the following motion was convincingly passed;
The AFLQUA executive is free to continue negotiating and finalising an agreement for the 2015/16 Community Umpiring terms and conditions without limitation.
The executive is continuing to work with AFLQ on this and hope to come to an agreement in the very near future. We will keep all members updated as talks progress.
The minutes of the meeting will be posted under the members section on the website in the coming days.

Members Update

A quick update on some of the workings from the AFL Queensland Umpires Association
- Season Launch - The Association is very excited to announce the return of the 'Umpires Season Launch' on March 19th after training at the Coorparoo Function Room. All NEAFL, QAFL and Community Umpires will be training at Coorparoo that night which will make it easy to come across afterwards and enjoy a feed and guest speaker. We will also be handing out polo's, shirts and singlets for those members who have signed and paid for 2014 membership at this event.
- General Meeting - This will be held also at the Coorparoo Function Room on April 30th after training. Again, all umpires will be training at Coorparoo that night
- EBA and pay rates - We received strong feedback from AFLQ about their intention to sign a one year deal. Our proposal was modified to suit this and can be found below. We have opted for higher base rates of pay during the home and away season, in return for lesser pay rates during finals. We are currently waiting for AFLQ to provide feedback on our proposal.
January Update
- NEAFL/QAFL Camp - Some members expressed concerns over the organisation of the camp which would have an impact on members. The Association spoke with AFLQ and the relevant parties and arranged for the camp to be endorsed by AFL Queensland, non-compulsory and to also provide a record of payment/receipt for all those who attend.
- QAFL and Community Enterprise Bargaining Agreement (EBA) - The Association is currently undertaking a lot of work with this document and hope to have it finalised soon for consultation with AFLQ, including a review of the match fees in line with the new competitions being formed. Association members will be made aware of any significant changes that occur through this process.
- Membership Packages 2014 - These are being finalised and we are anticipating to have these open for purchase through the website in early February. Some exciting changes and additions are planned!
- Time Trials - Good luck to the NEAFL and QAFL Umpires doing their next 5km TT at UQ next Wednesday.
- Community Training - From our understanding, training is due to resume February 5th. Good luck to all Community Umpires coming back after the break
- Congratulations also goes to the recently engagment of Josh Pini and Kathy. Great news!
